The Monumental Music of Burt Bacharach
A tribute to the great American composer of „What the World Needs Now“ and „Do You Know the Way to San Jose“
With Sam Hylton (arrangements, keys)
JJ sang several Bacharach titles over the years with different bands, and even attempted a Bacharach tribute project in Berlin many years ago. But it was the intuitive genius of composer and friend Gerd Baumann, who curates the Tiny Concert series in Munich, that the idea for a collaboration between Jones and fellow countryman Sam Hylton came into being. Essentially out of nowhere, Baumann suggested to do a tribute to Bacharach, who with his lyricist partner Hal David penned countless international hits including „Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head“ and „Close To You“.
Jones and Baumann have worked together over the years on several projects and Baumann was quite certain that Jones’s vocal stylings and Hylton’s jazz acumen would blend beautifully. Indeed, the premiere of the project, supported by the great talents of Benny Schäfer (bass), Andreas Unterreiner (tp) and Flurin Mück (dr), left the audience cheering for more.
